Sampson: Week One

Sampson, ruler of the undercouch!
The day finally arrived to bring Sampson home. Amanda received a text from the owners of the puppies saying that we could take home Sampson a week earlier than originally planned. Needless to say Amanda and I were excited to be given such glorious news! Sampsons' first ride in the car to his new home went very well! As a matter of fact, he waited until he got onto the grass to relieve himself. At that moment we knew that we picked a great puppy. When he finally made it to the house the whining begin. Which is understandable given that we did just take him away from the only family he had ever known. After he was done whining he bolted for the back of the couch. When Amanda tried to get him out he went underneath it! He fell asleep under the couch. Amanda and I waited and waited for him to wake up to no avail. Amanda was a little bit nervous and getting impatient because this is the first time she has to had to raise a puppy so she did not know what to expect from a puppy. I told her not to worry about and he is just trying to get use to his new environment plus, puppies get tired A LOT! As he was sleeping I took a picture of the little guy and gave him the nick name of Sampson, ruler of the undercouch! I know cheesy right? But it made Amanda feel a little better about the situation and that's what it was all about. The first night with Sampson actually wasn't too bad he slept through the night and didn't wake up until about 7. He did have an accident but it was just a little bit. Overall a great night. Day two was a different story though. Let's just say he was full of energy! He was riled up pretty much all day and he was firing on every single cylinder! The third day was an interesting one for little Sampson. Amanda, her family and Sam went to a community event called dandelion daze which he came into contact with many people and got way more attention then I'm sure he's ever had.

During the week Sampson also had to get used to Lucy, a black lab, pinky and bear, both ferrets. Lucy isn't a big fan of Sampson as of right now but, she's getting used to him. The ferrets and Sampson get along quite well as they play with each other quite a bit. Oh! I almost forgot about Magneto the cat that lives outside that has chosen our house to live at. Sampson and magneto have gone rounds a little bit but nothing too serious....

Week 2 is on location at the lake! Don't miss it

Thank you for reading. Until next time!

Finding Sampson

Hey there guys! I know almost all of us have either a puppy or an experience with someone who has had a puppy. Well my girlfriend, Amanda, and I decided to try our hand in raising a puppy. We searched around the internet for a basset hound. We found some on a website called puppyfind.com.  They had some great puppies for sale but, we just didn't have the funds available to purchase one. The decision that came to mind for us was to save our spare money and eventually, buy the puppy of our dreams. Little did we know that the puppy of our dreams was just one house away from her parents house.

Amanda was reading her newsfeed on Facebook when she stumbled upon her parents neighbor, whose dog just had puppies!!! Turns out the parents of the puppies are a black lab and a BASSET HOUND!!! We were excited to go check them out. Amanda and I got there and instantly saw a cute black puppy with a white spot on its chest. He came up to us first and wouldn't leave our side. We asked the owners how much for this cute little guy? When they said free our eyes lit up and said almost at the same time we will take him! The downside of that day though is he had to stay with his mom for at least 2 more weeks. The car ride home was filled with excitement and trying to figure what the name of this cute puppy would be. Went through names like Bob, Fred, Billy and Patrick but, none of them seemed to fit. Finally it clicked with the name of Sampson!  Now it was time to get prepared for the big day! Amanda purchased the BarkBox, the first one received had a puppy towel, dog toy, and three kinds of treat samples. Puppy proofing the backyard was going to be the tough part of this project. The fence had some holes where a puppy could easily fit through and escape. That project is a work in progress that we hope to get done soon. Check back every week for updates! Next week will be getting Sampson and the first week.
